Sherri Goggin
Mrs. Georgia United States 2006
Proudly representing The Peach State, Sherri Goggin was crowned Mrs. Georgia United States 2006 on February 26 at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center in Duluth, Georgia.
Reigning from Athens, Georgia, “The Classic City,” Sherri and her husband, Tom have been married for nine years. Together, they have five children, Kate, 7, Tom, 5, and three-year-old triplets, Will, Sam and Mary.
Sherri has chosen The March of Dimes as her platform and plans to volunteer and raise money for the organization during her tenure as Mrs. Georgia. Sherri became inspired to work towards The March of Dime’s mission to “…improve the health of babies by preventing birth defect, premature birth, and infant mortality through research, community services, education and advocacy,” when she experienced a tremendous loss during her first pregnancy. Her first born, Kate arrived 16 weeks early with a twin brother, Jack. Sadly, Jack died only seven hours after birth. Kate weighing one pound, seven ounces; however, remained in the neonatal intensive care unit for four months.
Sherri kept a journal during those four long months and now plans to publish it as a service for parents experiencing preterm birth and life in the NICU as well as a fundraiser for The March of Dimes.
The Goggin family served as a local “Ambassador Family” for the March of Dimes in 2000 and will serve as the featured family in the organization’s 2007 Walk America promotional video. In addition, they have headed up their own “Preemie Teamie” for Walk America since 2000, raising more than $7,000.
Sherri is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In addition to spending time with her family, she volunteers at her children’s school and plays League tennis. Sherri is a member of the Junior League of Athens, the Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary, and Athens First United Methodist Church.
